General Rule
Tibia is an online role playing game in which thousands of players from all over the world meet everyday. In order to ensure that this game is fun for everyone, CipSoft expects all players to behave in a reasonable and friendly manner.

Comment

A big community such as in Tibia needs some basic guidelines to prevent chaos and unfair behaviour among its members. These guidelines are listed and explained in the Tibia Rules, including some examples to clarify how you are expected to behave and which actions you should always avoid. However, please note that the Tibia Rules are not limited to these examples only.

Above all, you should treat other players respectfully and friendly, just as you would like to be treated yourself. If destructive and aggressive behaviour towards others makes you feel good, this is not the place for you, because this attitude will lead you nowhere except to a banishment.

With power comes responsibility, and you should not abuse your powers to oppress others and force them to play by your own rules. Help others instead of hindering them, you always stand taller with someone else on your shoulders. And sometimes it is very helpful to remember that Tibia is only a game.

Name Rules
1a) Offensive Name
1b) Invalid Name Format
1c) Unsuitable Name
1d) Name Inciting Rule Violation

Comment

Choosing a good name for your character is one of the first important steps you take in this game. The name of your character will be linked closely to your identity and reputation, so think about it carefully, since you cannot change your name later on. If you are not sure what a good name might be, you may consider using the Tibia name generator to get some ideas.
Please note that the name, ranks and titles of a guild also have to be in compliance with the name rules. The guild leader is held responsible for the name, ranks and titles of his guild. In case of e.g. a racist guild name the guild leader will be banished and the guild will be disbanded by a gamemaster.
Note that offensive names and names inciting rule violations can lead to a banishment or even the deletion of your account.

Finally, please keep in mind that this list is not exhaustive. The final decision on whether or not a name may be considered illegal rests with Tibia customer support.

Rule 1a) Offensive Name
Names that are insulting, racist, sexually related, drug-related or generally objectionable.

Comment

Insulting names:
Please make sure your name does not offend your fellow players. Names that contain any kind of insult ("Stupid Retard", "Katie the Moron") will not be tolerated.

Racist names:
Tibia is an international game where people from all over the world meet and communicate. Naturally, racist names ("Arab hater", "White Power") will never be tolerated.

Sexually related names:
Tibia is a game that is largely enjoyed by minors. As a result, we aim to keep any names referring to sex or sexual orientation ("Hetero Guy", "Porn star") out of the game. Also names that include sexually related body parts ("Nipple", "Breastfeeder") will be locked.
Similarly, names of celebrities who are connected to sex in some way are not desirable. This includes, for example, the names of porn stars, pimps or prostitutes.

Drug-related names:
Names that explicitly relate to drugs and other illegal substances ("Weedsmoker", "Junkie") are undesirable and will be locked accordingly. The same is true for names that refer to the excessive use of alcohol ("Drunkard", "Alcohol abuse"). This rule also prohibits the use of names of famous drug dealers ("Pablo Escobar", "George Young").

Generally objectionable names:
There are many more names that people may find offensive for a variety of reasons. For instance, the names of many body fluids and excrements are offensive ("Snot", "Lord Feces"), as are the names of diseases or handicaps ("Asthma", "Moe the Mongolist") or references to organised crime ("Mafia Hitman", "Narcotrafico"). Also, celebrities who are infamous for committing a serious crime or their inhuman actions are prohibited by this rule, e.g. serial killers ("Charles Manson", "Ted Bundy") or dictators ("Hitler", "Benito Mussolini").

Rule 1b) Invalid Name Format
Names that contain parts of sentences, badly formatted words or nonsensical combination of letters.

Comment

Names that contain parts of sentences:
Names that are sentences ("Go home", "Johnrox") are not allowed as names. The same is true for names that are incomplete sentences ("Knight likes to", "Dances with wolves") as well as for names that contain exclamations or greetings ("Oh my god", "Hi Dude").

Names that contain badly formatted words:
Our name creating system already enforces certain rules for names to avoid badly formatted names. For instance, names must start with a capital letter, special characters and numbers are illegal etc. Names that can be created even though they are illegal due to bad formatting include names that lack spaces ("Miketheknight", "Wingsofbeauty") or have weirdly placed spaces ("Mik ethekni ght", "Wi Ngsofb eauty").

Names that contain nonsensical combinations of letters:
You are welcome to come up with a fantasy name. However, it should not only consist of a random string of letters ("Jasdhsjhf", "Aauoiee"). Likewise, names which only contain a string of letters which is not pronounceable due to missing vowels ("Knightplk", "Mr Robinson") are illegal. Names that imitate sounds ("Oink oink", "Huehuehue") and names that obviously contain too many typing mistakes ("Drruuiidd", "Kinght off Svvargrund") are prohibited, too.

Rule 1c) Unsuitable Name
Names that express religious or political views, contain illegal advertising or generally do not fit into Tibia's medieval fantasy setting.

Comment

Names that express religious or political views:
Tibia is a game in which religious or political views should be of no importance. For this reason names are illegal that refer to a special religion ("Hindu master", "Muslim the paladin"), to a person that is connected to a certain religion ("Jesus Christ Sorcerer", "John the Buddha") or to a position which only exists in one religion ("Pope Frank", "Rabbi Druid").
Furthermore, names that express political views ("Democrat", "Peter the Anarchist") or refer to internationally known politicians ("Master George Bush", "Lula da Silva") are not allowed.

Names that contain illegal advertising:
Names in Tibia may not contain advertising that imply the selling of Tibia items for real life money ("Premium seller", "Dollar for Armor"). Also, Tibia names should not contain off-topic advertising, e.g. for worldwide known products ("Peter Smarties", "Snickers Druid") or companies ("Disney Paladin", "Microsoft Warrior"). Names that contain titles of other online games fall under this rule, too.

Names that do not fit into Tibia's medieval fantasy setting:
Tibia's setting is a medieval fantasy world. For this reason the names of its inhabitants should fit into the setting. They must not refer to things which are completely out of place in this world ("Spaceshuttle commander", "Remote control").

Rule 1d) Name Inciting Rule Violation
Names that imply or incite a violation of the Tibia Rules.

Comment

Names that imply the violation of the Tibia Rules:
Names that clearly imply the breaking of a Tibia Rule ("Sellacc", "Harry Botter") will not only be namelocked, but might also receive a punishment. The same applies to names which obviously fake an official position ("Ge Em on Aldora", "God Durin").
A name will be considered to imply a rule violation simply by naming it ("Bothater", "Spammkiller").

Names that incite the violation of the Tibia Rules:
Of course, all names that incite rule violations ("Friend of Insults", "Spam Sponsor") are illegal in Tibia.

Statement Rules
2a) Offensive Statement
2b) Spamming
2c) Illegal Advertising
2d) Off-Topic Public Statement
2e) Non-English Public Statement
2f) Inciting Rule Violation

Comment

Please watch the way you express yourself in the game or on the website to make sure other players will not feel offended by your behaviour. This includes your statements in Tibia as well as on the boards and your character or account information. This rule also covers texts on the guild pages on the Tibia website, including guild logos.

Rule 2a) Offensive Statement
Insulting, racist, sexually related, drug-related, harassing or generally objectionable statements.

Comment

Insulting statements:
Treat other players politely and refrain from insulting anyone. It also does not matter in which language the insult takes place, if you hide it like "D*mba**" or if you express yourself in a non-verbal way, e.g. by using ASCII art - it is the intention that counts. If someone is trying to provoke you, the best thing you can do is to ignore that person instead of responding to him or her angrily. Please do not take everything too seriously. Statements such as "You noob!" might annoy you, but they are not really serious insults. However, severely insulting statements may lead to an account banishment.

Racist statements:
Tibia is an international game where people from all over the world meet and communicate. Naturally, statements made to insult or mock a certain country or its inhabitants are not tolerated in Tibia. The same goes of course for a certain nation or ethnic group.

Sexually related statements:
Please remember that many children play this game and that certain topics are not suited for their ears and eyes. For this reason all references to sex, sexual related body parts or a sexual orientation have no place in the game or on the Tibia website. Note that this rule is not intended to be discriminatory in any way. Rather, it aims to preserve the respect amongst players.

Drug-related statements:
Drugs are illegal in most countries of the world. Also, drugs are not a suitable topic for children. For these reasons, any drug-related statements are prohibited and will be punished.

Harassing statements:
It is not allowed to make statements that are intended to harass other players. Above all, any statement in which other players are threatened in real life are highly illegal and will lead to severe punishments.

Generally objectionable statements:
There are many more conceivable statements by which people could feel offended for various reasons. Posts, for example, in which somebody claims that another player has died, even though this is not true, are very tasteless and will not be tolerated.

Rule 2b) Spamming
Repeating identical or similar statements within a short period of time or using badly formatted or nonsensical text.

Comment

Repeating identical or similar statements within a short period of time:
You surely know from experience how annoying it can be if players flood the public channels in the game, e.g. by repeating the same sentence every few seconds. This makes it impossible to lead proper conversations or to announce offers. Of course, there is an automatic control to prevent the worst spamming in the default channel and all public channels. Thus, you may not write more than one line of text every 2.5 seconds for a longer period of time. Also, you will only be allowed to state your offer or request once every two minutes in the trade channel. Players who evade the spam control by slowly repeating messages that disturb conversations may still be banished for spamming. This rule applies also for repeating the same statement in the forum. Please make a post only on the one board on which the content of your post fits best. Posting the same text on several boards will lead to a punishment.

Using badly formatted or nonsensical text:
You should not create nonsensical postings to keep threads alive, for instance by writing a post that contains nothing but the word "bump". Only reply to threads if you have something to say, e.g. do not just reply "hehe" to each thread just because you would like to raise your post count. Bad behaviour on the boards of this kind may lead to a banishment of your account.
In general, you should always refrain from making nonsensical statements such as "asdfsdfskhjkh". Also, please note that badly formatted text such as "-*-*-*-*I $eLl @rr0wzz*-*-*-*-" or ASCII art are not desirable in public chat channels or on the Tibia website and may lead to a punishment just like plain spamming.

Rule 2c) Illegal Advertising
Advertising content which is not related to the game or offering Tibia items for real money.

Comment

Advertising content which is not related to the game:
Trades or offers which are not related to Tibia are out of place in the game or on the Tibia website. This includes, for example, advertising other games, offering items from another game for Tibia items and advertising real life goods and brands. We do not want anyone using the channels or the website of Tibia to sell items such as a mobile phone or a computer.
This rule includes all links, with the notable exceptions of links that lead to the official website, the CipSoft website, any supported fansite, PayPal, TibiaME, Cafepress, ideal.nl or to element 5. For instance, links or references that lead to picture albums are considered to be advertising for the respective photo album host, so they are prohibited. The same is true for posting email addresses in public channels or on the website. However, it is legal to post a link to your guild page in the guild section of this website unless it violates other rules.

Offering Tibia items for real money:
Do not advertise or request trades of Tibia items for real money. You should try to earn your ingame possessions rather than purchasing them for real money. Please keep in mind that premium time periods also represent real money. Consequently, advertising the trade of premium time for Tibia items is prohibited. Besides, there is always the risk to get tricked in such trades. Keep in mind that we cannot help you in such cases, so never accept such offers and follow the rules for your own safety.

Rule 2d) Off-Topic Public Statement
Religious, political or other not topic-related public statements in the game or on the website.

Comment

Religious and political statements:
Our intention is not to restrict the freedom of opinion, but to keep controversial topics such as religion and politics, which are likely to lead to heated discussions, out of the game. For this reason, they are not considered to be suitable topics for the Tibia website or the public channels in the game.

Not topic-related public statements:
Please make sure you use the appropriate channel or board if you want to state something. For example, the trade channel and the trade boards are restricted to trading Tibia-related content only, so do not discuss quests there as this would be a topic for game-chat, to give but one example. Vice versa, do not post trade messages in the game-chat or on the world boards, as they should be reserved to trade channel and the trade boards only. Also, you should limit real life topics such as discussions about music or movies to the RL-chat or private conversations.

Rule 2e) Non-English Public Statement
Non-English public statements in the game or on the website where the use of other languages is not explicitly allowed.

Comment

Non-English public statements:
It is impolite to lead public conversations in a language which not everyone can understand. Surely you would not like to see the public channels spammed with seemingly senseless sentences or words. This is how it feels for many other players if you talk to your friends in your native language such as Portuguese or Swedish. Since English is the official language of Tibia and players are expected to understand it well enough to play the game, every player is required to use it for public communication in the game channels as well as on the boards.
However, there are some places where non-English statements are legal. You may post in any language on the real life board, the convention board and the guild board. You can write non-English statements in the RL-chat, the default channel, the guild channel, a private chat channel and of course in private messages. Moreover, your forum signature, your comment on the account page, the description in the guild section and your public information might be written in another language than English.

Rule 2f) Inciting Rule Violation
Statements that imply or incite a violation of the Tibia Rules.

Comment

Statements that imply or incite a violation of the Tibia Rules:
Please do not encourage others to violate a Tibia Rule, for example by telling someone "Hey, if you spam your offer several times in a row, it will be much easier to notice!". Refrain from putting other players into trouble and rather inform players who violate a rule about their mistake. Note that such statements are illegal and will be punished, even if they were intended to be a sarcastic remark or a joke.
Also, do not publicly glorify rule breaks, for example by stating "Anyone who fishes without using a macro is plain dumb". This gives an extremely bad example to other players, and you will get banished for such statements since you obviously support rule violations.

Cheating Rules
3a) Bug Abuse
3b) Game Weakness Abuse
3c) Using Unofficial Software to Play
3d) Hacking
3e) Multi-Clienting
3f) Account Trading or Sharing

Comment

Tibia is an MMORPG in which all players should have fair and equal chances. The cheating rules are intended to ensure a maximum of fairness and fun for all players. Cheating gives players unfair advantages over others that play by the rules , e.g. sharing an account allows a character to be online much longer than a character that is played by a single owner; automating the gameplay by using unofficial software or by other means instead is not only unfair but might also block server space for players who actually liked to play actively. For this reasons, most violations of the cheating rules are treated as serious rule violations and might lead to severe punishments.

Also keep in mind that many of these rules have been set up to protect your account. The majority of players whose accounts have been hacked have either used some unofficial software or have shared or traded their accounts.

Rule 3a) Bug Abuse
Exploiting obvious errors of the game, for instance to duplicate items. If you find an error, you must report it to CipSoft immediately.

Comment

Exploiting obvious errors of the game:
A bug, contrary to a game weakness, is an obvious error of Tibia, which is surely not intended to be that way - for example if the firewave of dragons would suddenly heal you instead of damaging you, or if creating a Sudden Death rune would all of a sudden cost 9 mana instead of 985 mana. Those are definitely bugs which you are required to report to CipSoft via mail or to a tutor or gamemaster as soon as you noticed and verified this bug. Please try to reproduce the bug and give as many details as possible when reporting it, so that CipSoft is able to locate the source of this problem more easily. If you abuse the bug secretly instead, e.g. for creating hundreds of backpacks of Sudden Death runes while they are accidentally cheap to create, your account will be banished or in severe cases, deleted.

Rule 3b) Game Weakness Abuse
Intentional abuse of weaknesses in the gameplay, for example arranging objects or characters in a way that other players cannot move them.

Comment

Intentional abuse of weaknesses in the gameplay:
A game weakness, contrary to a bug, is not an obvious error of Tibia, but usually a side effect of a certain program feature which is supposed to be the way it is. For example, you are not supposed to walk onto the same floor tile where another character is already standing, unless you get teleported or use ladders, stairs, holes or the like. As a side effect, you can not walk past a character standing in a narrow corridor, which can be abused to block or trap you, e.g. on non-PvP worlds where you cannot attack characters to make them move out of the way. Other examples of abusing a game weakness that are strictly forbidden are training for more than 15 minutes without playing actively yourself at your computer or deliberately teleporting your character to your home temple. There are numerous weaknesses like that, and you are required not to abuse them intentionally.

Rule 3c) Using Unofficial Software to Play
Manipulating the client program or using additional software to play the game.

Comment

Manipulating the client program:
Manipulating the client program to try gaining an advantage compared to other players is not only extremely unfair but may also cause serious errors in the game. In such cases you cannot expect any assistance from CipSoft concerning level, skill, item or character loss due to manipulating their software or the game protocol.

Using additional software to play the game:
Keep in mind that you are supposed to play the game yourself, not to have a tool or program playing it for you. Doing so gives you an unfair advantage over players who invest time and effort to gain power. Using a macro program or a so-called "tasker" or "bot" to automatically execute actions in Tibia for you will lead to an account banishment not below 30 days, including a final warning that your account will be deleted in case of further rule breaks. Thus, play fair.
Using additional software to play the game such as cheat programs is not only forbidden, but also poses a high hacking risk. These programs - especially if offered to you by other players - often contain a virus, trojan or some other sort of backdoor through which a hacker can access your computer and take over your account. It is highly recommended not to ever download and use such a cheat program. Moreover, both manipulating the client program and using additional software to play the game will lead to an account banishment or the deletion of your account.

Rule 3d) Hacking
Trying to steal other players' account data.

Comment

Trying to steal other players' account data:
Stealing another players account data or hacking an account is actually a real life crime and can lead to an investigation by the police if the original owner of the account decides to report it to them.
Apart from this, any attempt to steal a player's account data such as spreading links in the game or on the website meant to trick other players into downloading a key logger will lead to a long account banishment or even to the deletion of your account. If you should coincidentally get access to another player's account, e.g. because he treats his account data carelessly, you are required not to abuse this knowledge but should inform that player to secure his account.

Rule 3e) Multi-Clienting
Playing on more than one account at the same time.

Comment

Playing on more than one account at the same time:
Since there is an error message informing you that a Tibia client is already running when trying to start a second copy, you can obviously see that it is illegal and not intended for you to play on several accounts or clients at the same time. Thus, do not control more than one account simultaneously and do not use a manipulated Tibia client, which poses an additional security risk to your computer and your account. Note that it does not matter whether you use multiple computers or the same computer to be online with more than one account, both are illegal and will lead to an account banishment.

Rule 3f) Account Trading or Sharing
Offering account data to other players or accepting other players' account data.

Comment

Account trading:
You are not allowed to sell your own account or to give it away for free. Vice versa, you must not buy another players' account or accept their account data. This also includes not to accept or give away accounts as a present. Each account is assigned to one person only and this person may not pass on the account to somebody else. Statements like, e.g. "I'm selling a level 30 knight", "I trade my sorcerer on Antica for a sorcerer on Nova" or "I'm buying a paladin" - whether in the game or on a website - will lead to a banishment of your account. The same is true for a comment like "New Owner" on your account or character information.

Account sharing:
Moreover, an account should always be used by one person only. Only the person that created an account is allowed to use it. It is unfair towards other players if a group of several people shares one character to be online 24 hours a day. Sharing your account data with another person is not only against the rules, but also a high security risk for your account. It is actually one of the most wide-spread reasons why a player loses his account. What if you suddenly got into a serious argument with a person that you consider your friend and who you are sharing your account with? Or what if one of your friends suddenly decides that he would like to play your shared character alone and takes over your account before you can react? Account sharing is not worth the risk, which is why you should never do it. Besides, it can as well lead to an account banishment.

Gamemaster Rules
4a) Threatening Gamemaster
4b) Pretending to Have Influence on Rule Enforcement
4c) False Report to Gamemaster

Comment

Gamemasters are trustworthy players who have been appointed by CipSoft to monitor and stop destructive behaviour in the game or on the official website by penalising, banishing or deleting characters or accounts. All rules concerning gamemasters have been created to ensure that gamemasters are able to fulfill their task as well as possible and to provide the Tibia players with a fair and equal rule enforcement system.

Note: All rules concerning gamemasters apply as well for community managers and gods.

Rule 4a) Threatening Gamemaster
Threatening a gamemaster because of his or her actions or position as a gamemaster.

Comment

Threatening a gamemaster:
Although you might not always agree with a gamemaster's decision, please keep your objections to a friendly level. If you do not understand a banishment or think it is unjustified, please use the complaint function in your account. Do not abuse this function to insult or threaten the gamemaster, but stay polite and stick to the facts. Insults or threats towards a gamemaster or the CipSoft Team such as "I'm gonna kill you in rl you bastard GM!", whether in a complaint, on the website or in the game, will lead to an account banishment or the extension of your previous banishment.
Also, you are not allowed to take revenge on a gamemaster's characters for a banishment or action of the gamemaster. Doing so will lead to an account banishment as well, since the gamemasters must be able to perform their job without constantly getting threatened, killed or harassed.

Rule 4b) Pretending to Have Influence on Rule Enforcement
Pretending to be a gamemaster or to have influence on the decisions of a gamemaster.

Comment

Pretending to be a gamemaster:
You must not, at any time, pretend to be a gamemaster or a member of the CipSoft Team or to have their powers, especially not to threaten or trick other players. Statements such as "Give me your equipment or I will banish your account!" will lead to a banishment of your account.
Keep in mind, gamemasters or the CipSoft Team will never ask for your account number or password.

Pretending to have influence on the decisions of a gamemaster:
Do not claim to have influence on a gamemaster or the decisions of a gamemaster, such as telling another player "You better leave that monster spawn to me now, my best friend is a gamemaster" or simply "I will get you banished". To make other players believe that you have this power in order to threaten, impress or influence them like this is a serious rule violation and will be punished accordingly.

Rule 4c) False Report to Gamemaster
Intentionally giving wrong or misleading information to a gamemaster concerning his or her investigations or making false reports about rule violations.

Comment

Intentionally giving wrong or misleading information to a gamemaster:
You are required to support a gamemaster's investigations and to reply to his or her questions truthfully at all times. If you do, for example, claim towards a gamemaster that you never killed a certain player but your kill log proves otherwise, you could expect a banishment for lying. Also keep in mind that you are required to answer a gamemaster at all times. If you ignore a gamemaster, you risk a punishment.

Making false reports about rule violations:
Do not make false reports, e.g. stating via the rule violation report or a private message to a gamemaster that a player is macroing if that is actually not the case, just to get the player into trouble. Also, do not call a gamemaster if you do not have a good reason, e.g. messaging him with "Hey, can you teleport to me, I have never seen a gamemaster!". The time of gamemasters is precious and limited, and you must not waste their time by giving misleading or wrong information.

Player Killing Rule
5a) Excessive Unjustified Player Killing

Comment

This rule only applies to game worlds with regular PvP combat, since killing other characters is generally allowed on PvP-enforced game worlds and impossible on Non-PvP game worlds. On game worlds with regular PvP combat, it is not always the wisest decision to immediately kill a character you are having trouble with. Many problems can be solved by talking and negotiating. For example, there is absolutely no need to threaten a player with death who you feel is invading the place you are currently hunting in. Instead, try talking to him and compromise with him to, e.g. find an agreement about who may hunt first or how you can share the monsters. Of course, if you feel there is a good reason to kill a character, for example because he stole from you or seriously insulted you, you can take revenge by killing him.

Rule 5a) Excessive Unjustified Player Killing
Excessive killing of characters who are not marked with a "skull" on worlds which are not PvP-enforced. Please note that killing marked characters is not a reason for a banishment.

Comment

Excessive killing of characters who are not marked with a "skull":
If you kill a character that is not marked with a skull on a regular PvP-game world, you are considered as the aggressor of this fight and the kill will appear as unjustified in your kill log. Whether you had a good personal reason does not matter in this case. Try not to cumulate too many unjustified kills because your account will be automatically banished by the system if you kill other characters excessively. Receiving a red skull as a punishment for your previous kills is a clear warning that you should stop now or face a banishment or even the deletion of your account. Since the banishment for excessive player killing is performed automatically and based on concrete facts, you cannot complain about it.
